Doll Museum Reopens

TEHRAN –(Iranart)- fter a hiatus of two years, the Doll Museum reopened August 10 in Tehran. The first such professional museum in Asia, the museum is an archive of over 800 dolls and puppets from Iran and other nations.

 Doll Museum was previously located on Pasdaran Street. It shut down two years ago due to financial difficulties but reopened on August 10 with the support of the Art Bureau (Hozeh-Honari) of the Culture Ministry and the Tehran Municipality of District 12, according to online magazine of visual art Roozrang.

Author and collector Ali Golshan and expert in children’s literature Masoud Nasseri are managers of the museum which is now situated in an 80-year building located downtown at No. 2, Fiat Alley, North Sa’di Street, near ‘Darvazeh-Dowlat’ subway station.

The museum is open all days except Mondays. Visiting hours are 3 to 7 pm and on Thursdays and Fridays from 11 am-7 pm.

Dolls and puppets are from diverse cultures encompassing 53 countries. They include shadow puppets, theater puppets, tribal dolls, hand puppets, marionettes and life-size figures.
