‘5 PM’ Sets New Record

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – n the screens for eight days, Mehran Modiri’s first feature film ‘5 PM’ has set a new box office record in Iranian cinema.

The film’s 8-day sale grossed 30 billion rials ($800,000) while the amount was reached by Asghar Farhadi’s movie ‘The Salesman’ last year in nine days, Fars News Agency reported.

A well-known comedian, actor, director and musician, Modiri broke some records at the box office on its first day of screening last Friday, July 21, including the opening day as well as the single day sale ($185,000), online ticket sale ($80,000) and the number of showings in one day.

‘5 PM’ is showing in 58 cinemas across the country and more cinemas are adding the film to their schedule due to public deamnd.

Running for 95 minutes, the social comedy tells the story of a lawyer (in Tehran from 7 am to 5 pm. He needs to go to the bank before 5 pm, to pay an installment and save his home from being seized by the bank.

During the day, he faces so many incidents that make up the story and each one reflects social problems and anomalies.

Besides directing the movie, Modiri has written the script. As an actor he also is in the cast which includes Siamak Ansari, Amir Jafari, Azadeh Samadi, Rasoul Najafian and Negin Motazedi.
