80 French cinemas screen ‘Inversion’

TEHRAN.(Iranart) - Inversion,’ a social drama written and directed by Iranian screenwriter and director Behnam Behzadi is to be screened at 80 cinemas in France.

On July 19, a total of 80 French movie theaters will start screening the film. The public screening is coordinated by French film distribution company Diaphana which has purchased the rights for release of the film in France, the online magazine cinetmag.com reported.

Founded in 1989, Diaphana distributes 10 to 12 feature films annually from all countries.

The movie is about Niloofar, a 35-year-old woman in Tehran who after the air pollution reaches maximum level in the city because of the inversion effect, must decide whether to leave with her ailing mother or stay behind with someone who loves her.

Every year in Tehran, with the drop in temperature in winter, a phenomenon known as temperature inversion occurs during which cold air underpins warm air at higher altitude, leading to the entrapment of air pollutants in the city, which causes heavy smog.

Sahar Dowlatshahi plays the role of Niloofar. Other cast members are Ali Mosaffa, Setareh Pesyani, Shirin Yazdanbakhsh and Toufan Mehrdadian.

Owen Gleiberman, chief film critic of Variety has called Dowlatshahi “a dynamic actress.” Praising her performance, he has written, “the audience looks at Niloofar and feels so connected to her eager vitality that we want her to be everything that she can be”.

Inversion has also been welcomed by other foreign distributors and companies from Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Turkey and China, said Katayoon Shahabi, managing director of Noori Pictures, responsible for the international distribution of the film.
