Child victims of Kermanshah quake subject of photo contest

TEHRAN – (Iranart)- A popular Iranian campaign titled “Children with Bad Parents Are Lonelier” plans to organize a photo competition on the children affected by the devastating earthquake in the Kermanshah region in western Iran last November, the organizers announced on Sunday.

They asked those interested photographers to send their works to the contest until November 3.

Photographers Raheb Homavandi and Satiar Emami and actor Kambiz Dirbaz are the jury members of the contest named “Scribbled Wishes”.

“Since children don’t have the ability to protect themselves during natural and social crises, they are more vulnerable and need more attention,” the executive secretary of the contest, Milad Beheshti, said in a press conference.

“People, particularly children, suffered from physical and mental damages in the Kermanshah quake… In addition, the aftershocks have caused children a lot of worry and anxiety in the region over the past year. Therefore officials, charitable groups and social activists have a responsibility to make appropriate plans to protect children during such crises and natural disasters,” he added.

A selection of the submissions to the competition will be showcased in an exhibition, which will open at the Qasr Museum Garden on November 12.

Winners will be honored during the closing day of the exhibit on November 19, the anniversary of the massive earthquake that killed hundreds and injured thousands.
