Sound of Desert From South Khorasan
TEHRAN.(Iranart) –A n album of ethnic and folk music of South Khorasan is published by Hozeh-Honari (Art Bureau) affiliated to Islamic Development Organization.
The “Sound of Desert,” is a product of “Sahra” (desert) music group established in 1973 in Birjand, capital of South Khorasan Province. The group is locally known as Salmabadis after the surname of the majority of its members.
In the album, veteran musician Mohammad Salmabadi plays sorna (an Iranian woodwind instrument) and Ebrahim Salmabadi is on the two percussion instruments of dhol (double-headed drum) and dayereh (frame drum with jingles), while Jaber Zare’ sings and plays dayereh, according to Musiceiranian.ir.
There are 13 tracks in the album. Some of the songs and melodies are played on special occasions like at weddings.
