Effects of Doctors, Military on Soldier
TEHRAN. (Iranart) - D a Theater Hall has on stage an adaptation of “Woyzeck” a play written by German dramatist Georg Büchner (1813-1837).
Büchner left the work incomplete due to his early death from typhus, but Woyzeck was completed posthumously by a group of authors, editors and translators, Tiwall.com reported.
It deals with the dehumanizing effects of doctors and the military on a young man’s life. It is often seen as a working- class tragedy, though it can also be viewed as having another dimension, portraying the perennial tragedy of human jealousy.
Franz Woyzeck, a lonely soldier stationed in a small German town, makes some extra money for his family by performing menial jobs as well as taking part in medical experiments conducted by a doctor.
During one of these experiments, the doctor tells Woyzeck that he must eat nothing but peas. The diet breaks down his mental health and he begins to experience a series of distorted visions.
The play is directed by Sina Ahmadi who performs along with Amin Asem, Kimia Razaqi, Mehdi Attarian, Mehrshad Moqadasi, Kazem Mousavi, Shahin Valizadeh and Amirhossein Hormozi. Located at No. 26, Jahanmehr Street, Shahid Gomnam Street, Fatemi Square, the venue will host the performance through July 13.
