76 artworks sold at 9th Tehran Auction

TEHRAN. (Iranart) - The 9th edition of Tehran Auction was held at Parsian Azadi Hotel on 29 June, during which 78 classic and modern artworks were presented by acclaimed Iranian artists.

This year, Tehran Auction addressed the increasing interest in modern and contemporary art, and facilitated the acquisition of the best quality works in reliable ways. Organizers of the event offered their best experience and expertise to bring selective artworks of various genres to art lovers. The auction started at 7 pm and sold 76 lots in total.

Once again, Iranian art reached new heights, with distinguished artist Sohrab Sepehri taking the top auction place, followed in second place by Monir Farmanfarmaian. The compelling sale went to a charity organization that supports hemophilia patients in the country.

On Friday, 63 lots secured prices above 100 million tomans. Lots by other artists featuring in the sale included Hossein Zenderoudi, Mansoor Ghandriz, Reza Mafi, Mahmoud Farshchian, Manouchehr Yektai, Bahman Mohasses, Farideh Lashai, Kamal-ol-Molk, Aydin Aghdashloo, Parviz Tanavoli, Mohammad Ehsai, Koorosh Shishegaran and Sirak Melkonian.

Two lots by Hossein Zenderoudi and Koorosh Shishegaran could not sell at the 9th edition of Tehran Auction.

The first of its kind in Iran, Tehran Auction was launched in 2012 as a private, independent initiative to introduce the best of art ranging from established and emerging Iranian artists to Iranian art collectors and global buyers. The event aims to support the domestic art market as a key basis for the international market. The auction works widely with art galleries and collectors to ensure a vast and strong selection of paintings, sculptures and photographs.
