Lily Afshar to Hold Guitar Workshop

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – P rominent classical guitar player Lily Afshar is to hold a workshop at Ark School of Music in Tehran on July 5-6.

Prior to the class she will perform two concerts on June 28-29 at Fajr Complex in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, according to her Instagram account.

Afshar, a US based musician, has regularly conducted classes and workshops and held concerts in Iran in the recent past.

She is the first woman in the world with a doctorate degree for her guitar performance. The impeccable style in her seven CD records has delighted the audience and critics and attracted international praise.

Born in Tehran, Afshar, 58, earned her bachelor’s degree in music at Boston Conservatory, received her master’s from the New England Conservatory and later got her doctorate at Florida State University.

She has won the Orville H. Gibson Award in Los Angeles for Best Female Classical Guitarist in 2000.

Her other notable awards include a top prize from the Guitar Foundation of America Competition and Grand Prize in the Aspen Music Festival Guitar Competition. She is a three-time winner of the annual Premier Guitarist awards given by the Memphis Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, and was chosen as an ‘Artistic Ambassador’ to Africa for the US Information Agency.

Afshar has performed at solo and orchestral concerts in the US, Canada, England, Ireland, France, Italy, Jordan, Australia, New Zealand and Iran as well as in South America and Africa.
