Golden Tree festival to screen 6 docs by Iranian filmmakers

TEHRAN –(Iranart)- Six films from Iranian filmmakers will be screening at the Golden Tree International Documentary Film Festival in Frankfurt, Germany during September.

“A Woman without a Name” by Farzad Khoshdast will be competing in the official selection of the festival, which will be held from September 19 to 22 on the theme of “Roots and Future of Culture”, the organizers have announced.

The documentary centers on four young women who share their thoughts from behind the bars at a prison for women near Tehran.

Mohammad Ehsani’s documentary “Once Hamoun”, which reviews the numerous environmental and social problems caused by the shrinkage of Lake Hamoun in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan, will be screened in a section dedicated for medium-length documentaries.

“Women Serving Life” by Mohammad-Sadeq Esmaeili will also compete in this category. The film is about seven Iranians whose husbands are serving life sentences for drug trafficking.

“Affidavy for Khanali” by Arman Qolipur has been shortlisted for the short documentary section. It tells the story of Khanali, a 92-year-old man who had been the postman for 25 villages for 35 years. But now, he has been suspended for some reason and is trying to get back to work. 

“Chocolate Story” by Yusef Jafari will also be screened in this section while “Exist” by Payam will be competing in the mini-documentary category.

A lineup of 80 films will be screened in the various categories of the festival.
