Veteran Musicians From Mongolia to Join Annual Festival
TEHRAN.(Iranart) – M ongolian contemporary ethnic music band Egschiglen will stage a concert at Roudaki Hall in Tehran as part of the 33rd Fajr International Music Festival (January 10-20).
Egschiglen, an ensemble of veteran musicians, will perform on January 11, IRNA reported.
The band will play Mongolian ethnic instruments, fusing archaic melodies of the high steppes with contemporary genres.
Tumursaikhan Yanlav sings and plays the morin khuur, the horsehead fiddle and khel khuur, a Mongolian jaw harp.
Tumenbayar Migdorj also sings and plays morin khuur. Sarangerel Tserevsamba sings and plays yoochin, the Mongolian board zither; and Wandansenge Batbold sings and plays the drum.
Uuganbaatar Tsend-Ochir plays topshur and ikh khuur, the latter is a bass horsehead fiddle.
Amartuwshin Baasandorj performs khoomii, a kind of throat singing practiced by the people of Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, Tuva and Siberia. He also plays the percussion and khuuchir, a traditional bowed instrument and topshur, a two-stringed lute played by western Mongolian tribes.
Music is an integral part of Mongolian life and culture. Among the unique contributions of Mongolia to the world’s music culture are the long songs, one of the greatest features of the Mongolian music, overtone singing and morin khuur.
