Filmgoers impressed by “Yeva” at Toronto Pomegranate Film Festival

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – Iranian-Armenian filmmaker Anahid Abad’s drama “Yeva” has won the audience award at the 12th Pomegranate Film Festival, which was held in Toronto, Canada, Iran’s Farabi Cinema Foundation announced on Monday.

Produced by the Foundation and the National Cinema Center of Armenia, the film tells the story of Yeva, a young woman who escapes her influential in-laws with her daughter Nareh after her husband’s tragic death, and takes refuge in one of the villages of Karabakh, Armenia.

“Apricot Groves”, an Iranian-Armenian production by director Purya Heidari-Ureh, also went on screen at the festival.

The festival, which aims to promote Armenian culture and cinema, ran from November 15 to 19.
