Two Documentaries in Dutch Festival

TEHRAN. (Iranart) – A n Iranian documentary ‘Ali Aqa’, directed by Kamran Heidari, is to compete with 14 other films in the feature-length documentary category at the 30th International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the Netherlands.

‘Ali Aqa’ (meaning Mr. Ali in Persian) is the story of a birdman named Ali in an old neighborhood in Shiraz, Fars Province. He has been keeping birds for almost 50 years.

An international jury will evaluate the films and select winners for the IDFA Award and the IDFA Special Jury Award.

Heidari’s 81-minute documentary will be vying for the two awards in this category  together with other films - all longer than 70 minutes - from Poland, China, Egypt, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Iceland and Germany at the festival slated for November 15-26, ISNA reported.

The acclaimed Iranian short documentary directed by the influential Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad (1935-1967) is another film from Iran to be screened at the Dutch event.

Titled ‘The House is Black’, the film navigates into the suffering of the inhabitants of a leper colony and focuses on human conditions and the beauty of creation.

 It was the only film she directed before her death. During the shooting of the film she became attached to a child of a leper couple who she adopted before a tragic car accident cut short her life.
