Beirut festival paying tribute to Abbas Kiarostami

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – The Beirut International Film Festival (BIFF) is commemorating the legendary Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami by screening some of his films, including “Take Me Home”, “Where Is the Friend’s Home”, “24 Frames” and “A Taste of Cherry”.

“76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami”, which is a montage film made by Kiarostami’s close friend Seifollah Samadian, and Kiarostami’s “The Traveler”, “The Wind Will Carry Us” and “Through the Olive Trees” will also go on screen during the festival.

Kiarostami’s son Ahmad, actor Homayun Ershadi, interpreter Tufan Garekani, producer Charles Gillibert, sound editor Ensieh Maleki and assistant director Ali Kamali are in Beirut to attend the event.

In addition, the festival is screening four films by Iranian directors in various sections.

“A Girl in the Room” by Karim Lakzadeh, “The Guy Came on Horseback” by Hossein Rabiei Dastjerdi and “Alan” by Mostafa Gandomkar are competing in the short film section, while “Sheltered in Oak” by Mehdi Nurmohammadi has been selected for the documentary film section. 

The festival opened in the Lebanese capital on Wednesday and will run until October 12.
