Moqaddam Museum

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – Moqaddam Museum is a priceless historical house on Imam Khomeini Street in downtown Tehran that once belonged to archaeologist and painter Mohsen Moqaddam (1900-1987).

The luxurious house is located near Sheikh Hadi Street. When  Moqaddam inherited the house from his father, he and his Bulgarian wife Salma adorned it with traditional crafts, stuccoes, mirror works, tiles, sea shells, ancient items, woodworks and paintings.

Moqaddam House came to prominence in the 1950s and 60s when Professor Arthur Pope (1881-1969), an American art historian, wrote an article “Survey of Iranian Arts” on the unique house and the valuable historical objects in it.

Mohsen Moqaddam and Salma had decided not to have children. Instead, they considered the historical objects in their home as their children to look after and leave for the next generations.
