TEHRAN. (Iranart) - T he winners of the 2018 annual competition of the National Press Photographers Association were announced late March at the NPPA website. Iranian photojournalist with AFP Behrouz Mehri got the third prize.

According to the event website, Richard Tsong-Taatarii from Minneapolis Star Tribune and Marcus Yam from the Los Angeles Times won the first and second places respectively.

AFP, the third largest news agency in the world, is headquartered in Paris. Working for AFP for 20 years, Mehri, 47, has covered events in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

A graduate of University of Tehran, his photos have been published in several local and international newspapers and magazines and showcased at exhibits locally and abroad. Mehri has also won several awards for his works in Iran and China.

The National Press Photographers Association is an American professional association made up of still photographers, TV videographers, editors and students in the journalism field.

Founded in 1946, the organization is based at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia in the US. The NPPA places emphasis on photojournalism, or journalism that presents a story through the use of photographs or moving pictures. The NPPA holds annual competitions as well as several quarterly contests, seminars, and workshops designed to stimulate personal growth in its members.
