Lorestan Bronze Sculptures on Display

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – Protectors’ is the name sculptors Samira Darya and Meysam Nejad-Rasouli gave to an exhibition they held at Vista Art Gallery in Tehran, which came to a close on March 5.

The artworks on display reflected on the history of bronze sculptures of the western province of Lorestan, Honaronline reported.

Lorestan Province is famous for its bronze sculptures. Bronze items found in Lorestan date back to the third millennium BC.

“As most of the area’s inhabitants were nomads, the ancient pieces are usually in small sizes (easier to carry) and are mostly essentials of daily life. However, our statues are in larger sizes and are just decorative. We did not copy the motives used in ancient works; we just drew inspiration from them,” Nejad-Rasouli explained. The sculptures on show have been created employing the papier-mache technique, which is a composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp, sometimes reinforced with textiles, and bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch or wallpaper paste.
