Simon’s ‘Fools’ at Tehran Theater Campus

TEHRAN.(Iranart)he comedy play ‘Fools’ written by American author, screenwriter and playwright Neil Simon and directed by Iranian theater director Nader Naderpour is underway at Tehran Theater Campus in Khavaran neighborhood, southeast Tehran.

The comic drama was written in 1981 by Simon, 89. It is set in an idyllic Ukrainian hamlet named Kulyenchikov in the late 19th century, Honaronline reported.

A new teacher, Leon Tolchinsky, arrives in the town cursed with a chronic stupidity for 200 years and his job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes stupid.

Actor and translator Shahram Zargar, who is a fan of Simon’s works, has converted the play into Persian. So far, he has translated 14 works by Simon.

Jalil Farjad, Reza Emami, Ladan Nazi, Samira Salimi, Milad Soelimani, Nima Seyed-Mousavi, Masoud Ramezanpur, Sahar Dokmehchin, Alireza Fardmoqadam and Mohammad-Hossein Khademi are in the cast.

The play opened on June 6 and will run for a month
