Dragon Comedy at Molavi Theater

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – A satirical play about post-WW II Soviet Union written by Evgeny Lvovitch Schwartz is to go on stage at Molavi Theater in Tehran, September 24-October 12.

The comedy play “The Dragon” directed by Mehran Aslani, tells the story of a brave knight named Lancelot who attempts to liberate people suffering under the yoke of a brutal dragon.

But most people of the land are used to the dragon and accept his wicked ways as the only way possible. The people have become soulless and are crippled with inability and unwillingness to resist the dragon’s tyranny.

The play has been translated from English into Persian by Hossein Yaqoubi. Cast includes Atena Rasoulzadeh, Mehran Aslani, Yashar Hosseinzadeh, Khosrow Shahi, Paniz Khoshnik and Armin Eftekharzadeh, Tiwall.com reported.

In the play, first published in 1944, the Russian playwright has criticized Stalin and his totalitarianism by using symbolic elements. The play turned into a movie “To Kill a Dragon” in 1989.

Schwartz (1896-1958) was a Soviet writer and playwright who wrote 25 plays. He completed film scripts for “Cinderella,” “First Grader,” “Don Quixote,” and “Ordinary Miracle”.
