“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” comes true at Gdansk Shakespeare Festival

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – An Iranian troupe directed by Mostafa Kushki performed “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the 22nd Gdansk Shakespeare Festival in Poland on Sunday.

The troupe composed of Kushki, Azin Nazari, Mohammad-Sadeq Malek, Sajjad Baqeri, Ghazal Shojaei, Amir-Mehdi Juleh, Shahruz Delafkar, Nazafarin Kazemi, Alireza Keimanesh and Khatereh Hatami is also scheduled to stage the play again at the festival today, the organizers announced.

Baqer Sorush has rewritten the play to be staged in Iran. The troupe has previously performed the play 163 times in Tehran.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a comedy written by William Shakespeare in 1595 and 1596. It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons.

The play was also staged by German director Ewelina Marciniak from Theater Freiburg on the opening day of the festival on Friday.

The Gdansk Shakespeare Festival, which will run until August 5, also hosts Shakespeare productions from Argentina, Italy, Czech and Poland.
