Koohestani’s ‘Hearing’ Heads for Milan

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – I ranian theatrical work ‘Hearing’ directed by Amir-Reza Koohestani is to be performed in Milan, February 17-18.

It will be presented in Persian with Italian subtitles at the Teatro dell’Arte Bernocchi in Milan. The four-member cast includes Mona Ahmadi, Ainaz Azarhoush, Elham Korda and Mahin Sadri, Mehr news Agency reported.

A production of Mehr Theater Group, the 70-minute play is about two university students at a girl’s dormitory in Tehran who have to answer questions from the security staff after it was reported that a man’s voice and laughter was heard in their room on New Year’s Eve. However, nobody has seen any man. The play deals with guilt,  remorse, freedom and control as its main themes.

Breaking away from the naturalistic style, Koohestani has used a poetic approach to explore the everyday life of characters caught up in the turmoil of their environment.

Co-produced by La Batie-Festival de Geneve, the Center for Fine Arts Brussels, Hearing has gone on stage in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Greece, Serbia, Macedonia as well as Italy in the past.

Koohestani, 40, studied directing and cinematography in 1995 and went for higher education to the University of Manchester, majoring in theater studies. He has directed over 15 plays.
