Venetian Gangs in Rasht

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – I ranian theater director Mazyar Seyyedi will soon stage ‘Venetian Gangs’ at the newly-opened theater hall of Hamoun in Rasht, capital city of Gilan Province, in northern Iran.

Venetian Gang is written by Seyyedi in collaboration with playwright, theater director and actor Milad Akhgar. The script is based on ‘The Boors,’ also known as ‘The Cantankerous Men,’ a comedy by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni (1707-93), published in 1762, Mehr News Agency reported.

The original play is about four merchants of Venice, representing the old conservative tradition of the Venetian middle classes, who are pitted against Venice’s new frivolity.

Seyyedi started rehearsals with local thespians about three months ago. His advisor is actor and dramaturge, Hassan Majouni. The play is a production of Leev Theater Group founded in 2001 by Majouni.
