Clash With King
TEHRAN.(Iranart) – D irected by Morteza Mirmontazemi, ‘Becket’ is the title of a play on stage at Iranshahr Theater that will run through November 6.
The work is an adaptation of ‘Becket or The Honor of God is a play’ written by the French dramatist Anouilh (1910–1987). It is a depiction of the conflict between Thomas Becket, the archbishop of Canterbury, and King Henry II of England over the rights and privileges of the church which led to Becket’s murder by followers of the king in 1170. He is venerated as a saint and martyr by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.
Darioush Movafaq, Abbas Jamali, Ali Najafi, Faraz Sorbi, Majid Ahangaran, Sepideh Sabagh, Reza Darvish and Mahdi Mirakbari are in the cast, Tiwall.com reported.
