Bonyad Finding Successor to Plasco

Bonyad Finding Successor to Plasco

TEHRAN. (Iranart) - T he Mostaz’afan Foundation is organizing an architecture competition to select the best plan that will replace the Plasco tower near the intersection of Jomhouri and Ferdowsi streets in central Tehran. A huge inferno brought down the iconic structure on January 19.

As owner of the commercial building after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Mostaza’fan Foundation (aka Bonyad) is planning to build a new complex in its place. For this purpose the foundation has purchased 5000 square meters of land adjacent to the Plasco area, which covers 4,300 meters. The state-owned organization is preparing the site for a larger complex facing Jomhouri Avenue, ILNA reported.

The 17-storey Plasco tower, a shopping center with 600 units and several clothing workshops was built in the 1960s. The foundation is now seeking to give the site a new definition with less emphasis on commercial activities.

The disaster that wiped out the tower opened an opportunity for implementation of a project hoped to bring the area to its former glory and significance.

Until October 12, those interested can register at Plascorebuild.com, a website launched in spring for promoting the new project and submit their plans until Oct. 19. Winners will be announced by the end of the month.
