10th Regional Music Festival set for late June

TEHRAN – (Iranart) The 10th Regional Music Festival will be held in the southern Iranian city of Kerman from June 27 to 30.

The Kerman Governor’s Office established the secretariat of the festival in 2015 based on an agreement with the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, the secretary of the festival, Mohammadreza Alizadeh, announced in a press conference on Monday.

The 9th edition of the event was held during May 2016 after an eight-year hiatus, he added.

Bam, Baft, Sirjan, Zarand, Rafsanjan and several other towns in Kerman Province are ready to host music groups from across Iran during the festival this year, Alizadeh said.

“Regional music deserves to be considered,” Alizadeh noted and added that it should be preserved to pass on to future generations.

Kerman’s Madar Park will be the main venue for the performances scheduled to take place during the event.

The organizers have also arranged a number of open-air performances, which are expected to entertain over 2500 aficionados of regional Iranian music.

Musicians from Bushehr, Hormozgan, Lorestan, Kordestan, West Azarbaijan, East Azarbaijan, Fars, Sistan-Baluchestan, South Khorasan and many other regions of Iran will take part in the festival.

Alizadeh said that several overseas musicians have also been invited to the event. However, he gave no further information about them.

An academy for regional music is scheduled to be inaugurated during the festival.
