TEHRAN.(Iranart) – C onductor and composer Nez’hat Amiri is to conduct Iran’s National Orchestra at Vahdat Hall on August 30.

Amiri will join the orchestra as a guest conductor. The concert includes classical pieces including Bijan and Manijeh by Hossein Dehlavi, Dance of Dayere by Heshmat Sanjari, Ode to Flowers by Hossein Alizadeh and Nightingale by Morteza Hannaneh, Honaronline reported.

Amiri, 57, Iran’s first and only woman conductor, made history when she performed with the Naghmeh Baran Orchestra at the 33rd Fajr International Music Festival in January.

Amiri’s performance brought 55 musicians and a 16-member choir - with women making up almost half of both groups - on stage for two hours, to play three pieces by masters of Persian classical music, including a work by the legendary composer Morteza Hannaneh (1023-1989), for the first time.

She has a master’s degree in music composition from Tehran Arts University and studied under the acclaimed musician Parviz Mansouri (1925-2011).

In 2005, she became the conductor of Hossein Dehlavi’s String Orchestra and in 2017 led the Naghmeh Baran Orchestra in different concerts including a charity event for victims of the deadly earthquake in Kermanshah last November.

Iran’s National Orchestra was founded in 1998 by Farhad Fakhreddini.
