Hushang Ebtehaj’s Poetry and Daf Concert at Roudaki

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – F orouzan Music Ensemble, which includes 70 daf players and other traditional instrumentalists, is to perform two concerts at Roudaki Hall in Tehran, July 24-25.

The group will play pieces from its upcoming album composed by musician Siavash Abdi, based on poems of eminent contemporary poet Hushang Ebtehaj, 90, IRNA reported on its Persian website.

In the vocal part of the concert, classical singer Sadeq Sheikhzadeh will sing from Ebtehaj’s poetry while daf players accompany him.

Minoo Ashabi on kamancheh, Behnoush Kazemi on kamancheh alto, Sajjad Saqaee on oud, Ali Bashardoust on santour and the Masoud Jahed on ney will perform some of Abdi’s compositions.

Founded by daf and tonbak player Abdi in 2006, the ensemble is one of the first daf groups with a large number of performers. It has held concerts in and outside Iran and collaborated with prominent artists including musician Bijan Kamkar and tar player Majid Derakhshani.

Daf is a large Middle Eastern frame drum used in popular and classical music. The frame is usually made of hardwood with many metal ringlets attached, and the membrane is usually the skin of fish and other animals.

The venue is located at Shahriar St., Hafez St., Enqelab St.
