Review of Mozart’s Opera

TEHRAN. (Iranart) - The cultural institute of Maktab Tehran is organizing a series of meetings to review and analyze Mozart operas.

Operas by Austrian composer and pianist Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) are the subject of the review at the cultural-educational institute located at No. 8, Keyvan Alley, Azodi Street, Karimkhan Ave.

The upcoming review meeting is slated for Monday. Composer Nader Mashayekhi, conductor of Tehran Symphony Orchestra from 2006-2007, will lead the meeting that is open to the public, according to the public relations office of Maktab Tehran.

From among Mozart’s 23 operas, the timeless masterpiece “Don Giovanni” (Don Juan) will be discussed. Composed in 1787, the 2-act opera of Don Giovanni is in the genre of “dramma giocoso” which characteristically mixes serious and comic elements and uses a grand buffo (comic or farce) scene as a dramatic climax at the end of the act. Mozart entered the work into his catalogue as an opera buffa (comic opera).
