Khajeh-Amiri’s New Age Music Night at Azadi Tower

TEHRAN.(Iranart) - C omposer and pianist Mehrzad Khajeh-Amiri, accompanied by his band, will hold a concert of New Age music at Azadi Tower on January 25.

The performance will feature a repertoire of pieces created by Khajeh-Amiri, 31, as well as pieces originally made by distinguished international musicians, namely Greek composer Yiannis Chryssomallis, 62, better known as Yanni; Canadian poet, songwriter, singer, musician and novelist Leonard Norman Cohen (1934-2016); and  Irish-Norwegian band Secret Garden, Ritmeno.ir wrote.

New Age is a genre of music intended to create artistic inspiration, relaxation and hope. It is used in yoga, meditation and reading as a stress management tool.

It includes acoustic forms, featuring instruments such as the flute, piano, acoustic guitar and a wide variety of non-western acoustic instruments, and electronic forms, frequently relying on sustained synth pads.

Musicians accompanying Khajeh-Amiri include Rojin Edalat on violin, Soheil Bahman on violin alto, Shadi Rahimi and Ilia Amini on cello, Kimia Sha’rbafian on oboe, and Amir Hossein Kianpour who plays an array of ethnic instruments. Choir members are Hossein Mahdavi, Ali Pour-Rajab, Danial Ebrat, Nadia Baqeri, Roya Ra’fati and Mahsa Mardani.

At the age of 17, Khajeh-Amiri started the migration from classical music to world music, instrumental and New Age. With his concerts he promotes instrumental music and attracts audiences to the genre.
