Sazineh Band to Perform Ethnic Pieces

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – S azineh band, an ethnic music group, will hold concert for the first time after its inception in 2009, at Vahdat Hall in Tehran, December 27.

"Over the past eight years, we have tried our best to create a completely indigenous orchestration of Iranian folk music and present the talents of folk musicians to the audience," Peyman Bozorgnia, head of the band, was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.

Orchestration is the practice of writing music for any musical ensemble such as a concert band. It involves the selection of different instruments to play different parts of a musical work.

During the Sazineh concert eleven folk vocalists and musicians will go on stage and perform for 90 minutes. The traditional instruments which will be played include kamancheh, divan, tonbak, dohol, oud, sorna and balaban among others.

"Our aim is not to simply hold a concert per se. We are trying to introduce Iranian folk music to those who are not familiar with it," Bozorgnia said.

The band is planning to go on a musical tour across the country accompanied by well-known folk musicians.
