Kamkars, Nazeri Charity Concert

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – T raditional singer Shahram Nazeri and the prominent Kamkars ensemble held a concert on November 20 at the Interior Ministry Auditorium to raise funds for the quake-ravaged areas in western Iran.

The 7.3-magnitude quake struck Kermanshah and the bordering areas near Iraq on November 12 and claimed over 437 lives, injured 9,400 others and left thousands homeless.

Nazeri, the other participating artists as well as the organizing company Qoqnoos did not receive any income from the event. The total proceeds went to people affected by the natural disaster, the news website Sazoghalam.ir reported.

Master of classical Persian and Kurdish music, Nazeri, 67, hails from Kermanshah. He has worked on over 40 albums and held concerts in and outside Iran over the last two decades. His last album ‘Who Is in Love?’ was released earlier this month.

Nazeri, also composer and setar player, has performed at major venues  worldwide, including in Paris, Tokyo, Los Angeles, New York, Rome and Sao Paulo.

Kamkars music ensemble was founded in 1965 as a family music group by Hassan Kamkar. The group comprises a Kurdish family of seven brothers and a sister, all from the city of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan Province.

The group has performed numerous concerts around the world including one at the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
