Hafez Celebration to Honor Veteran Actor Keshavarz

TEHRAN – (Iranart)- eteran Iranian actor Mohamad-Ali Keshavarz will be honored at the 17th Hafez Celebration to be held in Tehran, end of July.

According to the public relations office of the ceremony, Hafez Statuette will be awarded to Keshavarz, 87, for a lifetime of artistic career and playing in dozens of films and series, and recording of several lasting roles with different and fascinating performances, cinematicket.org reported.

During his professional career, until the recent years when he has been resting at home due to age-related diseases, Keshavarz played different roles in an abundance of films, TV series, and plays.

Born in Isfahan, Keshavarz graduated from the Art School in acting. He started his professional acting career from playing in theaters in 1960.

During his 50-year career in various media, he has appeared in a good number of television series, cinematic films as well as staged plays.

His performances in plays ‘Uncle Vanya’, ‘Antigona’, and ‘Play Strindberg’, movies like ‘Mother’, ‘Del Shodegan’ (The Love-Stricken), and ‘Kamal’ol-Molk’ and series such as ‘Hezar Dastan’ (Nightingale), ‘Pedar Salar’ (Patriairch), and ‘Kohneh Savar’ will always be remembered.

One interesting point in his lifetime activities is the movie ‘Caravans’.

Made in 1978, it was an Iranian-American joint production. The movie was shot in Iran and starred Anthony Quinn, Michael Sarrazin, Christopher Lee as well as Keshavarz.

The previous 16 editions of Hafez Celebration were organized by film producer and editor-in-chief of Picture World Magazine Ali Moallem; however, as he passed away in March, this year’s event will be organized by his son, Omid.

It is the first private cinematic ceremony in Iran since 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The annual event presents the best of Iran cinema and national TV.
