TEHRAN.(Iranart) – The Iranian Cultural Week opened during a special ceremony at the Maly Theater in Moscow on Monday.

Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sanai, Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) director Abuzar Ebrahimi-Torkaman and a number of Russian officials attended the opening ceremony, which began with the reading of a message from Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky by one of his assistants.

In the message, Medinsky expressed his hope that cultural relations between the two countries would be expanded in the future.

The organizers honored Vitaly Naumkin, the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky, the director of the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, for the efforts they have made to promote Iranian art and culture in Russia.

A lineup of movies by Iranian filmmakers is scheduled to be screened during the cultural week. The lineup includes “Track 143” and “Breath” by Narges Abyar, “Mermaid” by Masud Aqababaian, “Season of Narges” by Negar Azarbaijani and “Rana Silence” by Behzad Rafiei.

An exhibition of Persian handicrafts also opened as part of the programs for the cultural week. Yelena Titova, director of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art in Moscow, was also among the guests during the opening ceremony.

Traditional music and theatrical performances and art exhibitions are underway during the festival, which will run until September 9.

The cultural week is also underway in Ufa, the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia, at the same time.
