Video mapping over Azadi Tower by French artist

TEHRAN.(Iranart) - The iconic Azadi Tower in southwest Tehran will be the screen for a projection mapping created by French composer, conductor, multimedia artist and researcher Stéphane de Gérando on Thursday.

Projection mapping, also known as video mapping and spatial augmented reality, is a projection technology used to turn objects, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection.

The display, dubbed “The Labyrinth of Time,” has been arranged through collaboration between Roudaki Art and Cultural Institute,  Kelid-e Talaee Cultural Institute and the French Embassy, Honaronline reported on its Persian website. The mapping will be accompanied by music.

Stéphane de Gérando, 53, has written several works for orchestras performed at Radio France and has won national and international awards.

Located at Azadi square, the tower is one of the landmarks in Tehran and part of the Azadi Cultural Complex, which includes an underground museum.

The structure was designed by Iranian-Canadian architect Hossein Amanat  and completed in 1971.

In 2015, people flocked to see German artist Philipp Geist’s “Gate of Words”   in which Azadi Tower was used as canvas for a light installation, with words of peace, love, and freedom projected in Persian English, and German on the tower along with a music performance.
