Recital of Kaveh’s Uprising at Daf Concert

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – Parts of ‘Derafsh-e Kavian’ (Kaveh’s flag) a small collection of poems by late poet, author and lawyer Hamid Mosadeq (1940-1998) will be recited at a daf (large frame drum) concert.

Derafsh-e Kavian was the royal standard or vexilloid of Iran since ancient times till the fall of the Sassanid Empire (224-651). ‘Kavian’ is translated either as ‘kings’ or ‘of Kaveh,’ a legendary blacksmith who led a popular uprising against a foreign ruler known as Dahag or Zahak.

Mosadeq’s poem gives a dramatic account of Kaveh and his revolt. Parts of the account will be recited by Hoda Babanorouzi who is accompanied by the daf ensemble of Mehrkouban, Tiwall.com reported.

Named after Mosadeq’s work, the concert is slated for February 23 at Shafaq Cultural Center located at Shafaq Park on Asadabadi (Yousefabad) Street.

Mehrkouban ensemble is led by Tahereh Maleki. Members are Parinaz Hesam, Saloumeh Dini, Sepideh Lakzadeh, Mitra Eslami, Parastou Ataeefar, Kimia Jahanbiglou and Marzieh Lashkari.
