TEHRAN.(Iranart) –T wo feature films from Iran will participate in the Calgary International Film Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from September 19 to 30.

“Orange Days” by writer and director Arash Lahooti and “3 Faces” by celebrated director Jafar Panahi will be screened.

Lahooti’s film is an empowering drama about self-sacrifice and a riveting fight against the odds in Tehran.

According to the festival website, the movie is a directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Arash Lahooti.

In “Orange Days” Hedieh Tehrani plays a stoic farm contractor showing that she too can compete, against unfair odds, with male competitors. While she leads her crew of female workers in northern Tehran’s largest orange harvest, her husband, played by Ali Mosaffa, is unwilling to recognize her hard work and untiring efforts.

The movie “3 Faces” won the Best Screenplay Award at the 71st Cannes festival in May for Panahi.

Panahi, is one of three main characters in his own movie, as he and film star Behnaz Jafari drive to northwest Iran on a quest to thwart the suicide of a young, aspiring actor desperate to escape her constrained and provincial life. Established in 2000, the Calgary International Film Festival is now the largest film festival in Alberta and the sixth largest in Canada.
