Vahid Jalilvand’s Film Wins Best Director Award at Russia Festival

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – T he feature film “No Date, No Signature” written and directed by Vahid Jalilvand has won the best director award at the 12th Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival “Zerkalo” (Mirror) in Russia.

Beside the Iranian film, eight other movies from Russia, Serbia, Germany, Georgia and China competed in the main section of the festival that ended on Sunday, IRNA reported on its Persian website.

No Date, No signature tells the story of a forensic doctor who has a car accident with a motorcyclist and injures the rider’s 8-year-old son. Next morning in the hospital, he finds out that the same boy is in the office for an autopsy due to a suspicious death. The physician is in a dilemma. Is he responsible for the child’s death or did he die of food poisoning as some doctors suggest?

The film has won many awards including Jury Prize at the 46th International Film Festival in Belgrade, Best Screenplay Award at the 28th Stockholm Film Festival. Jalilvand and the film star Navid Mohammadzadeh also won the Orizzonti Award for Best Director and Best Actor at the 74th Venice International Film Festival.

The 12th edition of Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival was held in the city of Ivanovo, June 12-17.

Andrey Tarkovsky (1932-1986) was a filmmaker, screen writer, film editor, film theorist, and theater and opera director. His acclaimed films include Ivan’s Childhood (1962), Andrei Rublev (1966), Solaris (1971), Mirror (1974) and Stalker (1979).

Tarkovsky is considered as one of the greatest movie directors of the 20th century, who created his own cinematic language and philosophy.

In 2007 to honor Tarkovsky’s 75th birth anniversary, the Ivanovo Oblast government, supported by the presidential administration, ministry of culture and the Russia Filmmakers Union, launched the International Film Festival “Zerkalo” after the celebrated director’s movie of the same name (Mirror).
