Life and Death of Van Gogh
TEHRAN.(Iranart) – H ilaj Cinema will show the biopic ‘Loving Vincent’ on January 23. Co-director by Dorota Kobeia and Hugh Welchman, the 2017 animated biographical drama is about the life of painter Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890), and in particular, the circumstances of his death.
It is the first fully painted animated feature film. Each of the film’s 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, using the same technique as Van Gogh, created by a team of 125 painters.
The filmmakers chose classically trained painters over traditional animators. Welchman says he wanted to avoid animators who had “personalized styles” and instead opted for people who “were very pure oil painters.
It won the Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin.
