Nematollah’s ‘Subdued’ at JIFF

TEHRAN.(Iranart) -- H amid Nematollah’s romance drama ‘Subdued’ will be screened at Jounieh International Film Festival, on January 17-22 in Lebanon.

With women and society as the theme, the film tells the story of a divorcee, Mina (played by Leila Hatami), who falls in love with Kamran (Kourosh Tahami), manager of a restaurant where she works. Kamran has a crush on her too but as Mina’s love grows for him, he gets reluctant to continue the relationship, ISNA reported.

The 104-minute film is to be screened on January 21 at the amphitheater of College Central in the coastal city of Jounieh, 16 km north of Beirut.

Competing films at JIFF include ‘Dionti Family’ directed by Alan Minas from Brazil; ‘Happy Birthday’ by Christos Georgiou from Greece; and ‘Flower of Aleppo’ by Ridha Behi from Tunisia.

‘Subdued’ premiered at the 35th Fajr Film Festival last February and won three awards, including the Crystal Simorgh award for the best actress for Hatami. Screened widely across Iran in summer, it was warmly welcomed by the public, grossing $1.2 million at the box office.
