'The Daughter' wins Golden Peacock at IFFI 2016

Reza Mir Karimi's 'The Daughter,' has won the Golden Peacock at the 47th International Film Festival of India held in Goa on Monday.

The film also won the Best Actor Award for Farhad Aslani, who won the Silver Peacock prize and Rs.10 lakh in cash.

A family drama set in southern Iran, The Daughter brings out intergenerational conflict between a strict father and a young daughter.

Mir Karimi's movie won the Golden Peacock in competing with 14 films from the US, India, Russia, Czech, Canada, Turkey and Poland.

The Daughter tells the story of a young girl who leaves her hometown for a half-day trip to Tehran without permission of her strict father to attend a close friend's farewell party. On her way back weather changes all she had planned.

The Daughter had also won the Best Film Award in Moscow International Film Festival earlier this year.
