Biopic to Chronicle Shel Silverstein’s Life

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – A merican actor, director, screenwriter and producer James Franco intends to make a film about Shel Silverstein, the children’s author, songwriter, poet, and cartoonist whose books have adorned shelves for decades.

 The online magazine Deadline reports that Franco is now in talks to both direct and star in the biopic. Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair are writing the yet untitled project based on the Lisa Rogak book ‘A Boy Named Shel’. The film will focus on the personal and professional struggles that made Silverstein a unique voice. Silverstein (1930-1999) is best known for books ‘The Giving Tree’, ‘Where the Sidewalk Ends’, and ‘Falling Up’. He won two Grammys and was nominated for both a Golden Globe and Academy Award for writing the song ‘I’m Checkin Out’ for the soundtrack to the comedy/drama ‘Postcards From the Edge’ by Mike Nichols.
