TEHRAN.(Iranart) – C inemas in Tehran are showing ‘Eshnogel’ which is inspired by the true story of 175 Iranian scuba divers who were buried alive with their hands tied during 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war. Their bodies were not discovered up until 2015.
In the film, dramatized by Ebrahim Asghari and Mehdi Mohammadi, commander of the scuba divers, Younes, goes missing while working on mission to dig a tunnel during the war years.
What differentiates between the drama and the real historical events is that the screenwriters have created a new story for the film and depict 30 years after when new evidence has it that Younes might have been helping the enemy during the war and that he is still alive, Cinematicket.org wrote.
Co-directed by Ali Soleimani and Hadi Hajatmand, the movie has Borzou Arjmand, Mahchehreh Khalili, Kaveh Sammakbashi and Rahim Norouzi in the cast among others.
Asr-e-Jadid Cinema, Mega Mall and Mellat cineplexes in Tehran are showing the film.
