Broadway’s ‘Charlie & Chocolate Factory’ to Close in January

TEHRAN.(Iranart) – T he producers of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ - chiefly Warner Bros. Theater Ventures - said that the musical will close January 14, 2018, at the Nederlander Organization’s Lunt-Fontanne Theater, in New York, where it will have played 27 previews and 305 regular performances.

A US national tour will follow, beginning in September 2018, they said, and plans for an international tour launching in Australia in 2018 and the UK in 2019 also are in the offing.

The original London production of the show played its final performance in London on January 7, 2017 after a three-year, seven month run, Daedline.com reported.

The musical has appealed to family audiences for most of its run and done solid box office business.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a 1964 children’s novel by British author Roald Dahl. The story features the adventures of young Charlie Bucket inside the chocolate factory of eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka.

It has frequently been adapted for other media, including games, radio, the screen and the stage. One of the most successful adaptations was in 2005, when a musical fantasy comedy film directed by Tim Burton was made.

The book has undergone numerous editions, been illustrated by numerous artists and has been translated into several languages including Persian.
